Loyola University Maryland

Dear Students and Parents,
Given the substantial financial commitment that students and their families must make to pay for a Loyola education, we have become increasingly concerned about finding ways to help you protect this investment. Of particular concern, are those students who because of a personal medical reason, may be required to leave school during a semester. They face a loss of time invested in studies, and also the loss of funds already invested in that semester’s cost. Loyola is pleased to advise you of an insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (TRP) offered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., as a way of protecting that investment. This year’s premium for a resident student is $439 and a non-resident student premium is $362.

TRP is an elective insurance plan that provides coverage for tuition, room and fees for the particular semester that the student must leave. Subscribers are assured a refund throughout the term, even though Loyola’s own refund policy may have expired at the time the leave happens. A full 100% TRP refund applies only to medical/physical leaves. Leaves for mental health reasons are insured at 60% of the cost. Loyola’s restricted meal plan and evergreen accounts as well as health insurance premiums and laboratory fees for courses are not included.

The chart below shows how TRP works to complement the University’s current refund policy for tuition:

University policy provides room refunds on a monthly basis, and refunds are prorated from the date of leave. TRP provides a refund of the amount not refunded through the University’s policy. Loyola’s restricted meal plan and evergreen account refunds are based on the unused portion left at time of leave.

As mentioned above, participation in the Tuition Refund Plan is entirely optional, and the University’s refund schedule is applicable whether or not you are enrolled in TRP. Should you decide to participate online, you must submit your application and payment by the first day of classes, August 31, 2015. Online applications cannot be accepted after that date. If you have any questions about TRP, please contact them at (617) 774-1555 or trp@dewarinsurance.com.
