University of St. Thomas

Dear University of St. Thomas Student,
The University of St. Thomas would like to inform you of an optional Tuition Refund Plan (TRP) that helps protect undergraduate students from financial loss in the event of an unexpected accident or serious illness resulting in withdrawal from classes after the beginning of the academic term.

Although the University provides tuition refunds for students taking a leave of absence or withdrawal, the refunds are limited to the first six weeks of fall or spring semester. The Tuition Refund Plan significantly extends and enhances the University’s published tuition refund policy. This will be especially beneficial if students are forced to withdraw from the term due to injury or illness and then return for a future term. Subscribers are provided an 80% refund throughout the term even though the University's own refund policy may have expired at the time of withdrawal.

The Tuition Refund Plan (TRP) is a private insurance plan administered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. Costs covered by the TRP program include tuition and mandatory fees. Miscellaneous charges, including health insurance are not covered.

The University’s tuition refund schedule is available on the Business Office webpage. The charts below show how the TRP complements the University’s tuition refund policy for withdrawal due to medical reasons. Please note that the TRP refunds will only apply if the student withdraws from all classes in the term. The University’s tuition refund schedule will apply if students are required to withdraw from an individual course(s) but stay enrolled for one or more courses.

We understand that the cost incurred with an education today is substantial, usually the second largest investment to purchasing a home. The student who suffers a serious illness or accident, and is required to leave the University before the semester is completed, not only incurs the loss of time invested in studies, but also the loss of the semester’s costs.

The cost of this plan for the 2016-17 is $110.00 per term (fall & spring). Enrollment in the plan is semester based. J-Term coverage is an additional $27 and will be billed in one installment.

Please note:
  • Participation in the Tuition Refund Plan offered by A.W.G. Dewar is entirely optional, however, the University's tuition refund schedule is applicable and strictly adhered to whether or not you enroll in the TRP.

  • Refunds for students receiving Title IV financial aid will be calculated according to federal guidelines.

  • Students with a pre-existing health concern are eligible to enroll in this plan.

The University of St. Thomas does not endorse this or any other private tuition insurance program, but we invite you to consider the suitability of the TRP for you.

For questions regarding the Tuition Refund Plan, please contact the Business Office at 651-962-6600.

Sincerely,

Pamela L. Peterson
