June 2019

Dear Carnegie Mellon Students and Parents:
Given the current cost of education, we want to ensure that we provide the appropriate services to students who suffer a serious illness or accident and must leave Carnegie Mellon before the semester is completed. In many instances, these circumstances mean the loss of time invested in course work and the loss of the semester's payments.

Carnegie Mellon's tuition insurance program, the Tuition Refund Plan (TRP), can help minimize the financial portion of such a loss. This elective insurance plan provides coverage for tuition, specified fees, and room and dining charges. The anticipated insured amounts for the 2019-2020 academic year are as follows:

Undergraduate Students
Campus Resident
Tuition*, Fees (Activity, Technology, Transportation and Media), Room and Dining $71,716
Undergraduate Students
Off-Campus and Commuter
Tuition* and Fees (Activity, Technology, Transportation and Media) $56,744

*Based on typical full-time tuition rate. Actual tuition may vary.

This plan complements the university's Tuition Adjustment Policy and coverage assures up to a 75% refund throughout the semester. This is especially beneficial if a student must withdraw and later returns to repeat a semester.

Separately, you may refer to the Tuition Adjustment Policy on The HUB website at www.cmu.edu/sfs/tuition/adjustment. The fee policies on the website are applicable regardless of a student's enrollment in TRP.

Participation in TRP is entirely optional. We suggest that you carefully read the coverage section concerning the plan. It is vital that those who wish to participate online, submit their application by the first day of classes, August 26, 2019. Applications cannot be accepted after this date. If you have questions, please call A.W.G. Dewar, Inc. at 617-774-1555 or email trp@dewarinsurance.com.
