University of Michigan Ann Arbor Campus

January 2022

Dear U-M students and families,

The cost of education today is a significant investment and this is a time of uncertainty. The occurrence of unexpected health issues can unfortunately disrupt plans for some students.

For this reason, the University of Michigan offers Tuition Refund Insurance to protect against financial loss in case a student must withdraw from the university due to a physical or psychological illness or injury.

The insurance is voluntary, inexpensive and provides some protection of your financial investment for the academic year.

Advantages of this insurance include:
  • It significantly extends and enhances the university's published withdrawal policy
  • It covers 75% of the insured term tuition and fees, less any refund or credit due from the university
  • The annual premium is less than 1% of the cost of a student's tuition
  • Coverage for University Housing can also be purchased
  • It provides funds that can help to pay back loans, grants and scholarships
  • It is offered by A.W.G. Dewar, Inc., a tuition insurance carrier that has been in business since 1930
Please note that the Spring term purchase deadline is May 10, 2022.
